BASIC: ISO Category III Vibration Analyst

The ISO Category III Vibration Analyst "Advanced" course is intended for personnel who have at least two years vibration analysis experience and a solid understanding of vibration theory and terminology This course is designed for the senior vibration analyst and program manager who must be able to diagnose the widest range of vibration related fault conditions, perform balancing and alignment, and understand, diagnose and correct resonance faults. Category III certification requires that you have demonstrated 36 months experience in vibration analysis, completed the Category III course and successfully pass the Category III vibration analyst examination, and are previously certified as a Category II vibration analyst.

  • Number of Questions on Exam - 105
  • Time Allowed to Complete Exam - 4 hours
  • Minimum Required Experience - 36 months
  • Minimum Required Training Hours - Category II + 38 hours
  • Minimum Education - Secondary school or Engineering is also highly recommended

CAPABILITIES OF CERTIFIED VIBRATION ANALYSTS:

Category III Certified Vibration Analysts are required to have all the knowledge and skills of a Category II Vibration Analyst and be able to provide technical knowledge and instruction to lower level analysts. A Category III Vibration Analyst shall have an in-depth knowledge of the principles and techniques machinery vibration analysis including single channel spectra, time waveforms, orbits, basic operating deflection shapes, and acceleration enveloping. They shall be qualified to design, direct, and manage routine condition monitoring programs, to conduct non-routine fault analyses, and to understand and direct alternative condition monitoring technologies to investigate and verify issues not resolved by vibration analysis. The Analyst shall be able to direct machinery corrective actions including rotor balancing and to recommend restrictions in machine operation.

Category III - Candidate Profile:

  • You have at least two years of vibration analysis experience
  • You want to be a leader of the vibration team, or take a leading role in diagnosing faults and making repair recommendations
  • You want to understand all data collector options, special test capabilities, all analysis tools and understand the widest range of fault conditions
  • You are seeking to become certified to international standards (ISO-18436) by an accredited certification body
  • You want to understand all condition monitoring technologies, how and when to apply them
  • • You want to understand machine dynamics (natural frequencies, resonance, ODS), how to perform resonance testing and how to correct resonance problems

Certification Prerequisite:

Prior experience is not required to attend training, but certification requires 36 months experience and ISO Category II certification, or a minimum of 60 months experience in lieu of Category II certification.

Outcome:

You will leave this course with a complete understanding of vibration and phase analysis, dynamic balancing and shaft alignment, and a developing knowledge of machine dynamics and all condition monitoring technologies you will be competent in quality data acquisition and diagnosing common machine faults.
